Lauren Redfern is accused of having sexual encounters with a 17-year-old male student. A Basalt High School girls basketball coach, 26-year-old Redfern was charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern of sexual abuse, a class 3 felony. She was the teen’s study hall teacher.
The sheriff’s office said when Redfern and the student were caught, it was in a teacher’s bathroom. Detectives also said Redfern and the teen had on-going sexual encounters over a four-month period at both her home and the student’s home.
